Srinagar: In a bid to pay tribute to the soldiers, who sacrificed their lives in the service of the nation, a war memorial (Balidaan Stambh) is coming up at Pratap Park in the commercial hub of Lal Chowk here.
“The work is going on in full swing and is expected to be completed within a month or two,” Anuj Kumar Malhotra, General Manager of Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) told KNO.
“The foundation stone of Balidaan Stambh was laid by the Union Home Minister Amit Shah on June 24, 2023 during his two-day visit to J&K. The work is going on at present and we are expecting to complete the project in the next two months,” Malhotra said.
He added a wall will be constructed alongside on which the names of the fallen soldiers will be written. “The Balidan Stambh is dedicated to the soldiers, who have sacrificed their lives in the service of the nation,” he said.
Pertinently, on the second day of his visit to J&K on June 24, the Union Home Minister laid the foundation stone of the ‘Balidan Stambh’ in Srinagar, an enduring symbol of courage. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi, and others were also present on the occasion.
After laying the foundation stone, Shah in a post on X, formally Twitter, had said “Jammu and Kashmir is the land of indomitable courage and bravery of nation’s brave hearts. To immortalise the valour of such heroes, the foundation stone of the ‘Balidan Stambh’ was laid at Pratap Park in Srinagar, today. The Stambh will inspire patriotism among the youth by immortalizing the memory of the martyrs.”—(KNO)
