Newly completed viaduct at Ramban  brings Jammu- Srinagar closer

Srinagar: In a significant milestone for the ongoing expansion of the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, a new viaduct spanning a length of 1.08 kilometers with four lanes has been successfully completed on the Udhampur-Ramban section.
This development marks a crucial step in the ambitious project to transform the entire highway into a four-lane road, aimed at improving connectivity and reducing travel time between Srinagar and Jammu.
An official while talking to Precious Kashmir said, “The Udhampur-Ramban section, which has seen consistent construction efforts over the past few years, has been a focal point of the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway expansion project. The newly completed viaduct is expected to have a transformative impact on the region, further bridging the gap between Jammu and Srinagar and enhancing the overall transportation infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir.”
He said, “The construction of this viaduct has been a complex and challenging undertaking, given the hilly terrain and the need to ensure minimal environmental disruption. The project was executed with meticulous planning, state-of-the-art engineering techniques, and a strong commitment to adhering to environmental regulations. The result is a remarkable piece of infrastructure that promises to facilitate smoother and safer travel for both commuters and goods transport along this vital corridor.”
Notably, the viaduct’s four lanes are designed to accommodate the increasing traffic volume and facilitate faster movement of vehicles. This development is expected to reduce congestion, travel time, and fuel consumption, while also enhancing safety on the highway. It will serve as a key artery for the economic activities in the region, supporting trade and tourism.
“The completion of this viaduct is part of the broader vision to upgrade the entire Srinagar-Jammu National Highway into a four-lane road, which has been a long-standing demand of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The ongoing expansion efforts have gained momentum in recent years, as the government continues to invest in this crucial infrastructure project,” the official added.
In addition to the economic benefits, the improved connectivity between Srinagar and Jammu will have far-reaching social and strategic implications. It will enhance accessibility to essential services, education, and healthcare facilities for the residents of remote areas, fostering overall development in the region.
