IIT Jammu hosts 3-day tribal workshop

Jammu: The HSS department of IIT Jammu, in collaboration with UBA and Social Outreach, has successfully organized a transformative Tribal workshop from September 21st to 23rd.

The workshop featured a diverse range of activities, including the comprehension and recitation of Gojri folklore and interpersonal communication skills.

Dr. Quleen Kaur Bijral, the event coordinator, led the proceedings with the enthusiastic participation of students from IIT Jammu and Cluster University, namely Faizal, Janvi, and Ilam.

Tribal students from Mahore, Reasi were warmly welcomed, accompanied by their government teacher, Mohd. Amin, and Muzaffer Mohd. Dr. Ankit Kathuria, a faculty member at IIT Jammu, engaged the participants in a stimulating research interaction on road safety and sustainability.

Two students namely Danish Iqbal and Iqra Rasool presented two models including hydraulic JCB and environment ecology.

Career counseling and interactive sessions were delivered by Professor Suresh, the Dean of Research and Consultancy. Under the leadership of Professor Rakesh Singhai, the Dean of Social Outreach, and Dr. Riya Bhowmik, the Associate Dean, the UBA team orchestrated engaging art and craft sessions, along with illuminating lab visits to the Physics Lab, Tinkering Lab, and Mechanical Workshop.

Professor Uma Shankar from the SW office at IIT Jammu shared invaluable wisdom on current research topics and the significance of academic excellence and co-curricular activities. Dr. Javaid Rahi addressed the participants, emphasizing the importance of Gojri cultural preservation, highlighting the rich heritage that deserves our utmost attention.

Furthermore, the students were given a comprehensive overview of the sports facilities available at the esteemed institution. The event was impeccably coordinated by B.Tech students who served as mentors – Jyotiraditya, Sujal Kumar, Anshika Kukreja, Rahul, and Shlok Tiwari and certificates of appreciation were provided to the students.

This Tribal Workshop stands as a testament to IIT Jammu’s commitment to fostering inclusive learning environments and celebrating diverse cultures. The event’s resounding success is a testament to the dedication and vision of all involved.
