Srinagar: Rotary International said it conducted 1,223 surgeries in the last ten days in South Kashmir as the mega surgery camp concluded on Wednesday.
As per the details, the surgeries were performed in the four hospitals of South Kashmir – District Hospital Kulgam, District Hospital Pulwama and District Hospital Shopian and GMC-associated hospital Janglat Mandi, Anantnag.
A total of 119 surgeries were conducted on September 04 at the district hospitals of Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam and GMC-associated hospital Janglat Mandi Anantnag followed by 155 on Sep 05; 141 on Sep 06; 131 on Sep 07; 134 on Sep 08; 139 on Sep 09; 150 on Sep 11; 177 surgeries on Sep 12 and 77 on Sep 13.
Officials of the Rotary Club said that around 2,000 persons had registered for the camp; however, 1,200 turned up and all surgeries were conducted on time.
Dr Girish Gune, Chairman of Kashmir Mega Surgical Project, said that last year the project was held in North Kashmir in four places – Baramulla, Kupwara, Sopore and Ganderbal.
“This Mega Surgical Project was highly successful with the fact that 2,500 beneficiaries got operated in nine days. The government provided infrastructure for surgeries including theatres, hospitals, etc. Moreover, extra-paramedical staff, nursing and theatre assistant staff and local medical consultants and government doctors were made available to take care of patients,” he said.
With the help of a team of 42 Rotary Volunteer Surgeons, operations were performed in specialities of Ophthalmology, General and Laparoscopic Surgery, Gynecology, Orthopedic Surgery, ENT Surgery, Plastic Surgery and Urology, he said.
“This year we conducted a Mega Surgical Project of the Government of Kashmir and Rotary International in South Kashmir from September 3 to 13. The surgeries were performed at Government Hospitals in Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam in specialities of Ophthalmology. General & Laparoscopic Surgery, Gynaecology, Orthopaedic Surgery, ENT Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Urology, Paediatric Surgery and Cancer Surgery,” Dr Girish said, adding, “We are extremely thankful to the Jammu and Kashmir government for showing trust in Rotary International for humanitarian service. We will continue such camps in the future as well”. (KNO)
