Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday said to have arrested two drug peddlers in Shopian and recovered contraband substance from their possession.
“A police party led by DySP Hqrs Shopian assisted by SHO PS Heerpora at a checkpoint established at Ramnagri Shopian intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK011-3871 with two persons on board,” a police spokesman said.
During search, 194 grams of charas like contraband substance was recovered from the said vehicle. The two accused persons have been identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Ganie son of Ab Gaffar Ganie resident of Memander Shopian Bilal Ahmad Lohar son of Gh Mohd Lohar resident of Memendar Shopian. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized, police said.
Accordingly, police said that a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Heerpora and investigation has been initiated.
“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said.
