Drug peddler arrested in Kulgam: Police

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kulgam on Monday claimed to have arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from his possession.

“A Police party of PC Nillow at a checkpoint established at Main Chowk Nillow intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee after noticing the police party but was apprehended tactfully. He has been identified as Abdul Rashid Dar son of Ghulam Nabi Dar resident of Nillow,” a police spokesman said.

During the checking, 4.2 Kgs of poppy straw concealed in a bag was recovered from his possession, police said.

Accordingly, police said that a case under FIR number 25/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Kulgam and investigation has been initiated.

Meanwhile, police urged people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. “Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt with as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said.
