Drug peddler arrested in Anantnag: Police

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested a drug peddler in Anantnag and recovered psychotropic substance from his possession.

“Acting on a specific information, a police party from Police Station Anantnag at a checkpoint established at Momin Abad Anantnag and arrested a drug peddler identified as Muzamil Ahmed Bhat son of Mohammad Akbar Bhat resident of Arwani Bijbehara,” a police spokesman said.

During checking, officers were able to recover 1200 bottles of Codeine phosphate from his possession. He has been shifted to police station where he remains in custody, police said.

Accordingly, police said that a case under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Anantnag and further investigation has been set into motion.

Meanwhile, police urged people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. “Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said.
