Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday claimed to have arrested two drug peddlers in Pulwama & Baramulla and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
“In Pulwama, Police Station Litter received a specific information through reliable sources that Shakeel Ahmad Ganai son of Ab Gani resident of Tumlihaal Pulwama has indulged in drug peddling and hoarded narcotic substances in his residential house. On receipt of this information, a Police party of PS Litter alongwith Magistrate raided the specific location,” a police spokesman said.
During search, two bags containing 10.5 kgs of cannabis powder was recovered from the said residential house. The accused person involved in the commission of crime was arrested and shifted to the police station where he remains in custody, police said.
In Baramulla, a police party of PS Uri under the supervision of SDPO Uri Showkat Ali while conducting patrolling at Uri Market, intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK05B-7267 at Bus stand Uri driven by Ghulam Rasool Malik son of Abdul Gaffar Malik resident of Salamabad Uri, police said.
“During search, 260 grams of Charas & cash amount of Rs 17,400 (proceeds of narcotics) was recovered. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Besides, vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.”
Accordingly, police said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations & investigations have been initiated.
Meanwhile, police urged people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. “Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said.
