5 gamblers arrested in B’pora, stake money seized: Police

Srinagar: Acting tough against social crimes, Jammu and Kashmir Police in Bandipora claimed to have arrested five gamblers and seized stake money from their possession.

A police spokesman said that acting on specific information about gambling activities in Nowgam area of Sumbal, a police party of PP Nowgam led by I/C PP Nowgam under the supervision of SDPO Sumbal Shri Surinder Mohan-JKPS & SHO PS Sumbal raided the specific site and arrested five gamblers on the spot.

They have been identified as Shabir Ahmad Zadoo, Mohmad Maqbool Naikoo, Syed Reyaz, Bashir Ahmad Batoo & Kifayat Hussain Batoo all residents of Nowgam Sumbal.

Officers have seized stake money of Rs 3,420 and playing cards from the gamblers. They have been shifted to a police station where they remain in custody, police said.

Accordingly, police said that a case under FIR number 137/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Sumbal and investigation has been taken up.

Meanwhile, police said that persons found indulging in criminal activities shall be dealt with as per law. “Community members are requested to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with the local police units,” police said.
