Highway reopens after 7- hour closure; Mughal, SSG Roads closed

Srinagar: Jammu Srinagar highway, the only surface link connecting Kashmir Valley with the outside world, reopened after remaining blocked for nearly seven hours due to accident near Khooni Nallah, shooting stones and mudslides at many places between Chanderkot and Banihal in Ramban district and closure of NAVYUG Tunnel, official said.

“Subject to faire weather and road clearance, LMVs passenger/private cars shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar highway on Tuesday,” a traffic department official told GNS.

Meanwhile, snowfall forced the closure of Srinagar-Leh highway as well as historic Mughal road, connecting twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri with Shopian.

A traffic department official told GNS that Srinagar-leh Highway was closed amid snowfall around areas of Sonamarg.

DySP Traffic Rajouri-Poonch Range Aftab Bukhari told GNS that the historic Mughal road was closed following snowfall in Pir Ki Gali and other areas along the thoroughfare.    (GNS)
