Women emerging as role models

The J&K women have been hogging the headlines for the feats they have been achieving in different fields.
They are making their marks in sports, politics, education, health, art, literature and technology. They are also emerging as successful entrepreneurs.
The various government schemes like Hausla, Umeed, Tejaswani etc. and the self help groups have gone a long way in improving the lives of women in J&K. On the other hand many women in the recent past have come forward and set up their independent  units and have become examples.
Women like Syed Mehtab Munir, who after studying engineering, started her own bakery unit have emerged as role models. During the past few years women have shun the social taboos and are contributing immensely in the development of Jammu and Kashmir. They are shouldering equal responsibilities along with the men.
Emergence of women as equal partners of men has helped in improving the standards of living as the income of the families has almost doubled. The government has been emphasizing on gender equality and is lending a helping hand to them in every field.
The scenario in J&K is changing fast and the women are emerging as the key players in driving the economy of the Union Territory. Besides contributing financially women are handling their homes and children and are grooming the generation-next. Men can no more claim that they are the only ones who are looking after their families. Women are contributing equally.
Women are progressing in every field of life. There was a time when girls were given less attention than boys in education and improving their skills, but this is no longer the case. The examples of girls performing prominently in every field of life have changed this thinking. Now parents are also considering girls equal to boys and are offering their full support to them to move forward in their endeavours.
Girls have been outshining the boys in the results of Matric and class 12th for the past many years and they have proven beyond doubt that they are more dedicated and sincere towards their studies than boys. It appears that discrimination with women is all set to end as they have been given equal rights and opportunities.
