Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday claimed to have arrested three drug peddlers in Awantipora and recovered contraband substance from their possession.
“A Police party led by Incharge Police Post Reshipora of under the supervision of SDPO Awantipora Mumtaz Ali Bhatti during a naka checking at Kawni crossing intercepted three suspicious persons who tried to flee away from the spot but were apprehended tactfully,” a police spokesman said.
“During search, 16.1Kgs of grinded Cannabis powder concealed in 03 Nylon bags was recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Riyaz Ahmad Bhat son of Mohammad Ismail Bhat, Javaid Ahmad Bhat son of Late Gh Nabi Bhat both residents of Kawni Awantipora and Javaid Ahmad Dar son of Mohammad Abdullah Dar resident of Dogripora Awantipora. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.”
According, a case under FIR number 213/2022 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Awantipora and further investigation has been initiated.
Meanwhile, police urged people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. “Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said.
