Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir administration on Tuesday asked private school owners within Union Territory to strictly refrain from disgracing or resorting to corporal punishment on students’ vis-à-vis non-payment of school fees and asked them to instead take the matter directly with the parent of particular student.
Citing anguish expressed by a delegation of parents before Administrative Department (School Education), Principal Secretary School Education Department Alok Kumar, as per a circular said that the parents complained about some private schools within the Union Territory of J&K are harassing the students for non-payment of school fees, some resort to disgracing the students during assemblies and classes and even some schools resort to corporal punishments, which he said is ‘highly objectionable’.
“The Government has taken a serious notice of it and accordingly, it impressed upon all the private schools, within the Union Territory of J&K, to resist from such practices”, reads the circular.
“Any issue regarding fees may directly be taken up with the Parents/Guardians and no student should be asked for payment of balance fees”, it reads.
“Any violation in this regard, shall be viewed seriously and necessary action may be taken against the schools, which can include de-recognition of the schools, as well”, the order reads further. (GNS)
