2 drug peddlers held in north Kashmir: Police

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police claimed to have arrested two drug peddlers in north Kashmir’s Baramulla and Bandipora districts and recovered huge quantity of contraband substance from their possession.

Besides, two gamblers have also been arrested from Pattan area, a police spokesman said in a statement here.

A Police party of PS Tangmarg at a checkpoint established at Hariwatnoo Tangmarg near Kralpora link road arrested a drug peddler identified as Bilal Ahmad Karay son of Munzwar Kharay resident of Roohipora Ratnipora. During search, officers recovered 2.5 Kgs of charas powder from his possession, police said.

Similarly in Bandipora, Police party of PP Nowgam arrested a drug peddler Mohd Yaqoob Beigh son of Mohd Rajab Beigh resident of Ganasatan. On his personal search, Brown Sugar concealed in paper strips was recovered from his possession, police said.

“Moreover, acting on specific information about gambling activities in Orchards of Ghat Gopallan Palhallan, a police party of Police Post Palhallan raided the specific site and arrested 02 gamblers on the spot. They have been identified as Gh Hassan Dar son of Gh Nabi Dar resident of Gopalllan and Manzoor Ahmad Kharoo son of Ab Ahad resident of Aathkhore Gund Roshan.”

Officers have seized stake money of Rs 4000 and playing cards from the gamblers, police said, adding that accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated.

Meanwhile, police said that persons found indulging in criminal activities shall be dealt as per law. “Community members are requested to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with the local police units,” police said.
