ACB arrests Executive Engineer in corruption case

Srinagar: J&K’s Anti Corruption Bureau on Friday arrested an Executive Engineer Public Works Department (Road and Buildings), for allegedly demanding and accepting bribe in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district, officials said.

They said ACB received a complaint against Farooq Ahmad Dar, Executive Engineer PWD (R&B), Special Sub Division, Gurez for demanding a bribe of Rs. 15,000 from the complainant as commission for releasing the payments etc.

The complainant stated that he and his father participated in a tendering process and his father was awarded the contract for the construction of a five room Government Primary school building at Dassi-B Bagtore Gurez.

“After completing the said work some payments were released by the department. However, for releasing the final payments, the Executive Engineer was demanding Rs 15000 as his commission for releasing the final payments,” the complainant said.

The complainant approached the ACB and requested for taking necessary legal action against the accused Public servant.

Accordingly a case was registered at Police Station ACB Baramulla and investigations were started.

“A trap team headed by DySP rank officer and independent witnesses was constituted. The team caught the accused red handed while demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs 15000 from the complainant at Gurez and he was arrested on spot,” the statement by ACB said, adding further investigations are going on.
