42 pilgrims injured in separate road accidents

Srinagar: Ten women were among the 42 Amarnath Yatra pilgrims, who got injured in separate road accidents at Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway and in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Thursday, officials said here.

Officials said a bus carrying Amarnath devotees from Jammu met with an accident near Badragund area of Qazigund in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, injuring at least 37 yatris.

The accident was caught on camera. In the video footage, the speeding bus can be seen colliding into a stationary dump truck, while taking a turn at the crossing, added the sources.

They said all the injured worshippers, including the five women who sustained minor injuries, were discharged from Emergency Hospital Qazigund after first aid, while three grievously injured devotees were shifted to GMC Anantnag for treatment, they said.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said three Amarnath yatris, who had received minor injuries, were shifted to Government Medical College Anantnag for treatment.

He also directed the district administration and the Principal GMC to take care of those with minor injuries and arrange for their travel.

“Three Shri Amarnath Ji Yatris, who had received minor injuries in a road accident near Badragund, Kulgam, were shifted to GMC Anantnag. Instructed District Administration & Principal GMC to take good care of others with minor injuries & ensure necessary arrangements for their travel,” LG Sinha tweeted.

Meanwhile, at least five yatris were injured in another road accident in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

An official said that an accident took place at Satrina Kangan when a Tavera vehicle bearing registration number JK01Q-8625 driven by Mehraj-ud-din Mir, son of Abdul Gani of Budgam on way from Kangan to Baltal collided with a Tempo traveller bearing registration number JK08B-3008 resulting in minor injuries to five yatries, who were on board in Tavera.

The injured have been identified as Manisha Parohit, daughter of Mohan Parohit , Urmila Parohit, daughter of Mohan Parohit, Divya Mohan Parohit, daughter of Mohan Parohit, Anupurna Parohit, wife of Mohan Parohit and Usha Kelash Parat, wife of Kelash Parat—all residents of Maharashtra.

All the injured have been shifted to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Kangan for treatment. However, the tempo driver has managed to flee from the scene of occurrence. (UNI/KNO)
