Srinagar: The recent hailstorm that took place on May 6 affected dozens of villages of horticulture zone Tangmarg including Ferozpora, Qazipoa,Katipora and Mahyan and Badrekoot village of Horticulture zone Kunzer.
Out of these villages the worst hit was Ferozpora, locals said.
The Chief Horticulture Officer took a whirlwind tour of the affected areas with the field staff and assessed the losses.
“More over technical guidance regarding remedial measures including spraying of fungicides was preached on spot. The same process was repeated the next day also and people appreciated the efforts of the departmental persons in their quick approaches,” said Chief horticulture Officer.
He said an overall 8 to 10 percent loss has been recorded on spot.
The worst hit fruit crop has been the cherry because of its soft and perishable nature.
