SKIMS conducts awareness program on fire and safety in hospitals

Srinagar: Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Science (SKIMS) administration conducted an awareness program about the fire and safety measures in the hospital in coordination with the Fire and Emergency Services of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.

Medical Superintendent SKIMS Prof. Farooq A Jan highlighted the importance of fire safety measures in hospitals during the occasion and said that SKIMS has a vibrant fire safety system in place, a statement of the SKIMS said.

He said the training is regularly imparted to dedicated staff and mock drills are frequently conducted in the hospital in view of any emergency.

He also stressed for a smart detection system to avoid any eventuality. He also said that many such programs at large scale need to be conducted with participation of all stakeholders.

Nodal Officer Fire Safety SKIMS Dr Samina Mufti during the program gave a detailed presentation on fire safety and its prevention in hospitals.

She elaborated that all hospitals must incorporate Fire Safety system in its Detailed Project Reports (DPR’s) for a fool proof system.

She said that the recent major fire incident at Bone & Joint hospital underlines that fire incidents are unavoidable and every effort should be made on prevention of such incidents.

Divisional Head Fire & Emergency Services J&K Tassaduq Ahmad and Assistant Director Fire and Emergency Services Aqib Ahmad Mir also spoke on the occasion and emphasised on proactive fire fighting mechanisms in hospitals for fire detection, protection and prevention.

They also listed in detail the measures taken in case of any eventuality and said any system should be prepared and trained in advance.

Fire Safety awareness week is being celebrated every year from April 14 to 22 and during the week SKIMS administration conducts many training programs and drills among all cadres of the hospital.
