Twin Kupwara villages have independent WSSs

‘Giving connections to Batergam residents from RWSS not feasible’

Srinagar: Authorities of Jal Shakti department on Sunday said that twin villages of district Kupwara have independent water supply schemes.
Statement issued by the executive engineer Kupwara said that the village Batergam has lift scheme and water is supplied to the people according to roster as the said scheme depends on the availability of electricity.
The villagers, statement said, are demanding the water connections from the regional water supply scheme pipeline which is not feasible.
“The regional water supply scheme supplies water to the whole Kupwara town and giving connections to the villagers from the said scheme is not feasible at all,” the statement said.
The people of Batergam and Gulgam had on Saturday  blocked the road in protest against the shortage of drinking water. The issue was highlighted in a section of press following which the top authorities had sought report from the PHE officials of the district.
