Amira Kadal Blast: Toll reaches 2, injured girl succumbs

Srinagar, Mar 07: The death toll in grenade blast at Amira Kadal here reached to two as a young girl lost battle for life at hospital here on Monday, officials said.

Medical Superintendent SMHS hospital here Dr Kawaljeet Singh told the 19-year-old Rafiya daughter of Nazir Ahmad Tinda of Dargah near NIT succumbed to her injuries. She had suffered multiple injuries in the blast which took place at 4:20 hours at the busy street on Sunday.

The girl had scored 478 out of 500 (distinction) in the recent 12th class examination the result of which was declared last month by the J&KBOSE, her relatives and neighbours said. A pall of gloom descended in the locality when her body arrived at home for last rites. Hundreds of people participated in her funeral, reports said.

An elderly person Muhammad Aslam Makhdoomi (70) from Makhdoom Sahib area of Nowhatta Srinagar had died near the spot while 28 persons including a policeman were injured in the blast near the busy Amira Kadal bridge.

The explosion took place while the area was abuzz with a huge rush shoppers who had thronged the week flea Sunday market.

Police on Sunday evening detained several persons for questioning in connection the blast, a senior police officer said. (GNS)
