Admin forms committee to look into grievances of ST employees

Srinagar: In a significant development, the Jammu and Kashmir government has constituted a committee to look into the employment/service related grievances of the Scheduled Tribe employees across various departments in the Union Territory.

According to an order, a copy of which is in possession of The Precious Kashmir, the committee would be headed by commissioner secretary, Social Welfare department, secretary, Tribal Affairs department, Director, Tribal Affairs/Social Welfare department, additional secretary, (monitoring section), General Administration Department and secretary, J&K Advisory Board for Development of Gujjar and Bakerwals.

It is for the first time that such a mechanism has been created for employees from the ST community.

As per its terms of reference, the committee  shall examine the complaints of employees belonging to  STs on matters such as non-maintenance of reservation roaster and non-filling up of reserved vacancies, discrimination in promotion/seniority, non-appointment on compassionate grounds, discrimination in transfer/posting, termination/dismissal from services and denial of pensioner benefits.

The committee was constituted after the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes wrote to the J & K government over it.

As per the order, the committee shall submit a monthly report to the chief secretary for monitoring of action taken on the grievances. It shall also submit a quarterly report to the National Commission including the reports received from autonomous bodies/PSUs/attached/subordinate offices under the administrative control of the departments.
