Rajouri: Sarpanch spends his own money to repair road

Rajouri (Budhal): Disappointed over the government’s lackadaisical attitude towards the sufferings of people, a local Sarpanch from Kewal Panchayat Halqa here has come forward to help the people and started renovation of the damaged road on his own.

The development comes at a time when the government claims to reach out to the people at the grass roots level to mitigate their sufferings.

However, as per the locals, the situation is contrary on the ground as from the last over one month, the road from Tran to Phagoli remained unrepaired at Mohra Bijji and despite several requests to district administration Rajouri, the concerned department and authorities at the helm of affairs failed to take any appropriate action.

Locals said that Sarpanch Panchayat Halqa Kewal, Muhammad Farooq Inqalabi started the renovation work of the road on his own by pressing JCB machines and labourers after the people faced hardships due to the damaged road.

Talking to media persons, Inqalabi said that it is a matter of great disappointment that on one hand the government and concerned department are drawing huge bills for restoration, renovation and repair works but on the ground the situation is totally pathetic and the poor public have to suffer a lot due to the negligent attitude of officers and government apathy.

Inqalabi further demanded Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to probe the utilization of funds, meant for repair and restoration works under various schemes especially SDRF and others.

The general public of the adjoining hamlets of panchayat halqa have appreciated the gesture of local Sarpanch and said that he always come forward to help them and spend funds every year for the renovation of this road as the administration don’t bother to pay heed towards the sufferings of poor people.
