Civilian shot dead in Srinagar

Srinagar: Unidentified gunmen on Monday evening shot dead a 27-year-old civilian at Bohri Kadal area of Srinagar.

Official said that a salesman identified as Muhammad Ibrahim, 27 of Ashtangu Ghat, area of northern district of Bandipora was fired upon by the unidentified gunmen, leaving him seriously wounded.

He was immediately rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead.

Medical Superintendent SMHS hospital Dr Kanwaljeet Singh also confirmed that the youth was declared dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, police in a statement said that today at about 08:10 PM, Srinagar Police received information about an incident at Borikadal area of Srinagar.

Senior police officers reached the spot, it said, adding that the preliminary investigation has revealed that militants had fired upon one civilian identified as Mohammad Ibrahim Khan, son of Ghulam Mohammad Khan of Astengoo Bandipora at Borikadal area of Srinagar.

“In this incident, he had sustained critical gunshot injuries and was immediately shifted to nearby hospital for the treatment where he succumbed to his injuries,” police said, adding that a case has been registered in this regard under relevant sections of law.

“Investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the circumstances which lead to this incident. The area has been cordoned off and search in the area is going on,” police said.
