Child killed, 8 others injured in Ramban accident

Jammu: A child was killed while eight others suffered injuries when a makeshift motorcycle rickshaw on Monday met with accident in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Ramban, P D Nitya said that at about 1700 hours, Police Station Ramban received a message that a makeshift motorcycle-rickshaw met with an accident at Kowbagh which was driven by driver Rampaul, resident of Punjab.

The rickshaw was ferrying eight children in the trailer, she said and added that when the police party reached the spot, one child was found dead while others injured were shifted to the hospital.

The six yrs old deceased was identified as Bhirbhan, son of Rampal.

The injured persons were Rampal (driver), resident of village Baladah, District Mansa, Punjab, at present Kowbagh Ramban, Suraj Bhan,12, Chameli, 7, Gulshan, 6, Zameerun, 3, Chandni, 9, Salma,12, and Sabana,14.

The SSP said that five children have been referred to GMC Jammu who are in a critical condition.

“The vehicle was being driven in a rash and negligent manner and losing control due to over speeding, it met with an accident,” said the SSP. (UNI)
