2 LeT militants, 3 aides arrested in Kashmir

Srinagar: An active militant of TRF/ Lashker-e-Toiba was arrested by security forces in Wahadan area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Monday.

A senior police officer said that based on specific information, a search operation was launched at Wahadan area of Aishmuqam by joint forces of Police and army’s 3RR during wee hours.

The officer further said that during search operation one Active militant identified as Hafiz Abdulla Malik resident of Ganjipora was arrested.

From his possession one Pistol and seven rounds were also recovered. He was active since 25 Sep this year, the officer added.

Meanwhile, after interrogating him, he led search parties to Katsu Forest where security forces recovered an AK-47, 02 magazines along with 40 rounds from the spot, the officer added.

Meanwhile, Police also claimed to have arrested an active militant of TRF/ Lashker-e-Toiba outfit in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

A senior police officer said that Pulwama police along with Army arrested one militant identified as Sarwir Ahmad Mir (22) son of Ghulam Mohideen Mir resident of Bathen, Khrew.

The officer further said that he is an active militant of LeT /TRF outfit, who had joined the militant ranks recently.

Meanwhile, three militant associates were arrested in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, police said.

Police said they were arrested during the investigation of a case in which a “hybrid” militant was killed in a brief shooting at Cheradari on Baramulla town outskirts.

On October 28, a “hybrid” militant identified as Javaid Ahmed Wani, a resident of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district was killed in a brief shooting at Cheradari.

“During the course of investigation of case into the encounter Baramulla police zeroed in on some suspects which came to fore during investigation. In furtherance thereof, today a joint party of forces arrested three terrorist associates,” a police statement said.

The trio was identified as Asgar Majeed Lone of Gulshanabad Azadgunj, Asif Ganie of Bagh e Islam Baramulla and Faizan Rasool Gojri of Syeed Kareem Baramulla.

“On the basis of disclosures of the associates, especially those of Asgar Majeed, joint forces party recovered one grenade and 24 rounds of AK-47. Further investigations are underway,” he added. (GNS/UNI)
