Walnut kernels stolen in Lagama Uri

Uri (Baramulla): Unidentified persons are said to have stolen around seven quintal of walnut kernel (girri) from Lagama market in Uri on intervening Saturday and Sunday night.

Reports said that locks of a trade unit, dealing in sale and purchase of walnut kernels, were found broken and the stock found missing. Information was passed on to the local police following which a team visited to assess the spot.

The victim trader identified as Bashir Ahmad Naik has in the meanwhile claimed that around seven quintal of walnut girri, which according to him is worth several lacs has been stolen from the trading unit. “All the stock which I had kept in boxes and crates  has been stolen”, Bashir said.

Meanwhile a police official said that some unidentified persons have broken into the shop and lifted the stock. “We have registered case in this regard for due investigations”, the official said. (GNS)
