Police recover kidnapped minor girl, arrest accused

Srinagar: Police on Thursday recovered a kidnapped minor girl within 12 hours and arrested the accused in central Kashmir district of Budgam.

A police spokesperson said that Police Station Magam received a written complaint from a person (name withheld), stating that his minor daughter was kidnapped by one Rafeeq Ahmed Malla. “A case under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Magam and investigation was initiated,” he said.

He said during the course of investigation, a team was constituted to trace and rescue the kidnapped girl. “Acting on specific leads and by utilizing all available means, the team was able to recover the kidnapped girl from Archandrahama area of Magam and arrest the accused person,” he said.

He said the accused has been shifted to Police Station Magam where he remains in custody. “After fulfilling all medico-legal formalities, the girl has been handed over to her legal heirs. Further investigation into the matter is in progress,” he said.

“Swift action by Police against anti-social elements has been appreciated by the locals. Community members are requested to cooperate with police in curbing social crimes in their neighbourhood. They can share information pertaining to social crimes with police. We reassure the community members that our efforts in curbing social crimes shall continue,” he added.
