Poonch completes 100% first dose vaccination for all above 18 years

Srinagar, Sep 27: Around 20 days after Samba district in Jammu division of J&K UT completed 100 percent first vaccination for people above 18 years of age, Poonch district has also achieved the feat by giving first dose vaccination to all the people above 18 years of age.

An official told KNO that all 361,663 persons coming under the 18-44 year age category have been given the first dose of vaccine while 106,561 (29 percent) have been given the second dose of vaccination in the district.

In aggregate, around 83 percent have been given first dose while 36 percent people in Jammu and Kashmir have been given second dose of Covid vaccination under the 18-44 age category so far.

In Jammu division four more districts are set to achieve the feat in the next few days where over 90 percent people have already been given their first dose of vaccination.

In Kashmir division, Shopian district where around 83 percent people have been vaccinated is leading, however, in rest nine districts of the valley, vaccination percentage is in between 70 to 80 percent.

It is pertinent to mention here that Vaccination drive in  J&K was started on 16 January this year and under this drive first vaccines were given to health care workers, then front line workers followed by all above 60 and people with comorbidities  which was later extended to all above 45 and finally to all above 18.

Government is yet to take any decision about vaccination of below 18 persons in J&K.
