Srinagar: Residents of Lalbazar are up in arms against Jal Shakti Department for its alleged failure to regulate water supply in their area.
Locals while talking to Precious Kashmir said, “Our area has been facing acute water crisis from the past one month as some people have installed water motors on direct water supply line due to which taps in many houses are running dry.”
A resident Mohammad Aslam said that the population of Lal Bazar area is around 25000 but more than 50% populace is not getting tap water supply in their homes. “We are forced to visit nearby areas to get potable water for drinking purpose,” Aslam added.
Residents said that they have approached the concerned officials on many occasions but their pleas fell flat on deaf ears. “On one hand we are grappling with the COVID-19 threat while on other hand we are being deprived of proper drinking water facility,” said Mohammad Aqib, 2nd semester law student.
Despite repeated attempts none of the officials of Jal Shakti Department could be contacted for their version.
