Srinagar: A soldier of Rashtriya Rifles (RR) committed suicide by shooting self with his service weapon in the border town of Keran in north Kashmir district of Kupwara, official sources said on Thursday.
They said panic gripped a camp of 6 RR at Keran in Kupwara when firing shots were heard last night. However, other soldiers immediately rushed towards the post where a soldier, Lokinder Singh Thakur, a resident of Madhya Pradesh (MP), was found in a pool of blood.
He was immediately rushed to hospital where he was declared brought dead.
It was not immediately known why the soldier took this extreme step, they said adding police has registered a case and initiated proceedings.
