Cop, non-local labourer shot dead in Kulgam

Srinagar: A constable of the Jammu and Kashmir Railway Police and a non-local labourer were killed at separate places by unidentified gunmen in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday.

Police sources said the militants fired at constable Bantu Sharma in Wanpoh area of Kulgam district in the afternoon.

“He was shifted to hospital for treatment, but he succumbed to critical injuries,” a source said that the area has been cordoned off for searches and senior police and other security officers have reached the spot.

Meanwhile, a 35-year-old labourer from Bihar was killed by suspected militants in south Kashmir district of Kulgam.

Official sources said the labourer, identified as Shankar Choudhary, was critically wounded by suspected militants at Neehama in Kulgam late on Friday evening. “The injured was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead,” they said.

They said the gunmen managed to escape from the spot under the cover of darkness, adding security forces have been rushed to the area and a search operation has been launched to nab the attackers.
