Police rescues Bakerwal family, livestock in Kulgam

Srinagar: Police rescued five family members of a Bakerwal family who got stuck along with their livestock in a nallah after heavy rainfall in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Sunday.

A police spokesman said that an information was received around 0600 hrs Sunday morning that a Bakerwal family alongwith their livestock were stuck in between Nallah Yath Yathur in Kulgam following abrupt rise in water level due to heavy rain in the area.

He said a joint team of police led by in charge Police Post Mirbazar, Sub Inspector Abdul Rashid along with SDRF personnel under the supervision of SHO and SDPO Qazigund reached the spot.

The team with strenuous efforts rescued all the five family members with their livestock including 200 sheep, one horse and two dogs, he said adding they were later shifted to safer place alongwith their essential commodities.

General public and the rescued family members thanked Kulgam Police for the timely assistance in saving precious lives.
