Srinagar, Sep 11: Train service between Baramulla in north Kashmir and Banihal in Jammu region resumed on Saturday after remaining suspended yesterday as a precautionary measure.
Train will run on Srinagar-Budgam in central Kashmir and Baramulla in the north today, official sources told UNI Friday.
Similarly, trains will also chug on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region, they added.
Train service was suspended on September 2nd following the death of separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani who breathed his last on September 1st night at Hyderpora house. The service was later restored after five days after the situation remained peaceful in the valley.
Train service was again suspended yesterday as a precautionary measure, they said.
They said in the past railway property worth crores of rupees was damaged in violence in the valley.
Train service has become very popular as it is cheap, fast, comfortable and safe against other modes of transport available in the valley. Majority people prefer to travel by train from Srinagar to Banihal and later to Jammu by road.
