Srinagar: Police on Friday arrested three drug peddlers and recovered contraband from them in south Kashmir district of Kulgam.
A police spokesperson said that following specific information about transportation of drugs, a checkpoint was established at Nandimarag crossing in Kulgam. “Police intercepted three suspicious persons, who were trying to flee from the spot after noticing the police party at the checkpoint,” he said.
However, he said the police party tactically apprehended the trio identified as Gulzar Ahmad Ganie, Muzaffar Ahmad Bhat and Ali Mohammad Mir, all residents of DH Pora.
“During checking, officers were able to recover 70 gms of Brown Sugar from their possession,” he said, adding the accused were immediately arrested.
He said a case vide FIR No. 107/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station DH Pora and further investigation has been initiated.
He said community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood, adding persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
“Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” he added.
