Srinagar: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Chief Spokesman, Sunil Sethi Sunday welcomed the center’s initiative to call an all party meeting on Jammu and Kashmir saying the move will pave the way for the early elections in Jammu and Kashmir and will usher in a new era of development in the federally governed territory.
“Some people had differences of opinion with BJP on certain issues, they moved to the Supreme Court and the matter is pending disposal in the top court. The Supreme Court’s decision in this direction would be final,” Sethi said.
He also said development of Jammu and Kashmir lies in the electoral process as the bureaucratic form of government has its own disabilities and it is less accountable than the elected government.
BJP leaders said skipping or avoiding elections will be sheer injustice with the people of Jammu and Kashmir as development when people have their choice of government.
He said the initiative to convene all party meeting vis-à-vis Jammu and Kashmir is aimed at broader participation of all political parties in the electoral process.
“People get their choice of government as development cannot be achieved until an elected government is formed, because bureaucratic form of government has its own disabilities, answerability is less. People could directly approach their representatives once an elected government is formed,” he said.
He also said that BJPs stand on political process is clear “Article 370 and 35A do not exist anymore in the constitution and whosoever believes in the Indian constitution and are willing to participate in elections is welcome.”
