Srinagar: Former Chief Ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti have strongly condemned Sopore attack in which two cops and as many civilians were killed when suspected militants attacked a naka party on Saturday.
Omar, vice-president of the National Conference (NC), said it is a terrible news coming from Sopore.
Such attacks must be condemned without reservation, he said.
Taking to micro blogging site twitter, Omar said ‘Terrible news coming in from Sopore. Such attacks must be condemned without reservation. Prayers for the injured & condolences to the families of the deceased’.
President of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba condemning the killing in the attack said that gun cannot solve the issue of Kashmir.
Denouncing the use of gun, she said ‘whether it is the gun of Delhi or our youth who have picked up arms, it cannot help us resolve the issue.’
Talking to reporters on the sideline of her visit to Sweepers colony Noorbagh in Baramulla where over 30 families were rendered homeless after about 15 houses were gutted in a devastating fire on June 10 night, she said ‘such incidents defame Kashmir and give people (with naming anyone) reasons to use more force against commoners. We believe that non violence and dialogue is solution to every problem,’ she said.
