2 OGWs arrested along highway in Qazigund

Srinagar: Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested two Over Ground Workers (OGWs) along with a huge cache of arms and ammunition—including two AK 56 rifles, 10 pistols and nine grenades—on Srinagar-Jammu national highway.

A police official said that following specific information, a checkpoint was established at Lowermunda in Qazigund on the 280-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway.

“Police intercepted a tipper at the checkpoint and during checking recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition — including two AK 56 rifles, eight AK magazines, ten 9mm pistols, 18 pistol magazines, 90 9×19 mm ammunition and 9 grenades,” he said.

He said the driver of the vehicle, identified as Zahid Nabi and another person Mehraj ud din Dar, both residents of Sambora Kakapora in Pulwama, were arrested. “Preliminary investigation reveals that both the arrested persons are militant associates,” he said.

He said a case vide FIR No. 127/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Qazigund and further investigation is going on. (UNI)
