Covid waves will keep on coming and going, say experts

Srinagar: The COVID-19 has once again raised its head. The cases are increasing in Kashmir and experts believe that situation can take a deadly turn if people don’t follow the norms in letter a spirit.
Flu expert and president of Doctors Association of Kashmir Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan while talking to Precious Kashmir said, “Getting a COVID-19 jab is important but not many people are coming forward.  If people stay away from vaccines the COVID waves will keep on coming and going.”
He said, “People should realize that the virus is very much there and they have to follow the norms. Social distancing, wearing masks and washing our hands cannot be ignored. The pandemic has not ended yet.”
An observer said, “Lot of people are visiting gardens and parks. All the norms are being thrown to winds. Imposing lockdown is no solution. We have to take precautions and avoid gatherings.”
He said, “In the recent past many such cases were reported where all the family members who had attended some function or ceremony tested positive for COVID-19. The pestilence is very much there and people need to be aware of it.”
The observer said that no one is in the favour of lockdown being re-imposed. “It appears that the government also is not that keen on closing down everything. The vaccine has already come and more and more people are becoming eligible for it. People need to come forward and get themselves vaccinated.”
A medico said, “The research and studies have proven it beyond doubt that vaccines are helping the people and are acting as a shield. Only thing we don’t know how long will the protection last. These jabs are safe and the people who have got vaccinated during the past few months have not complained off any side effects. History stands testimony to the fact that the pandemics in the past were fought with proper care and vaccines. We can’t do anything if people don’t understand the importance of getting a jab.”
He said, “The present COVID-19 wave seems more contagious and deadly. If we don’t wake up now it will be too late. We are aware about the fact that if the number of positive patients who need hospitalization increases, it can lead to healthcare getting crumbled.”
An official said, “We are monitoring the situation and steps are being taken to enforce the COVID norms. At present there is no proposal of re-imposing the lockdown or closing down the educational institutions in Kashmir.”
