Girl from remote village tops class 12 exam in Arts

Anantnag:  A girl student from a Government Higher Secondary School in Anantnag district topped the class 12 exams in Arts stream, the results of which were declared on Monday.

Shabnam Nazir, who was studying in model higher secondary school Bijbehara, secured 500 out of 500.

Hailing from remote Shalgam village of Bijbehara, Shabnam had got her elementary education from Falah-i-Aam-Trust registered Modern public school in her own village.

She later shifted to high school in her neighboring village, Sirhama to pursue secondary education and passed the class 10 with 446 marks.

Shabnam after passing class 10 moved to government model girls higher secondary school Bijbehara to study higher secondary classes. She opted for arts subjects.

Speaking to Precious Kashmir, Shabnam said she was overjoyed to learn about her results.

“Since I had worked very hard and was expecting a good success. When the news about my topping the Arts stream broke, I was more than happy and so were my family members,” she said.

None in the Shabnam’s family has studied beyond class 10. “My father has studied upto class 10 only and is doing farming while my mother is a home maker”.

Due to closure of schools following the pandemic last year, Shabnam said, she prepared for the exams doing self study.

“Since education suffered a lot due to pandemic I did lot of self study. Internet, though slow helped me a lot in preparing for exam,” she told Precious Kashmir.

Besides Allah, she also credited her teachers and parents for her success.

“Though there were no classes but whenever I needed any help or guidance my teachers also were there to guide me,” she said.

Shabnam used to study four to five hours every day with concentration.

“You need not to be a bookworm to make it big in exams. If you study with all seriousness you can achieve great success in any exam,” she believes.

Shabnam plans to go for administrative services after completing her bachelors.

“My aim is to qualify administrative service exams. And if I fail to do that I will pursue my higher education in economics which is my favorite subject,” she added.
