Covid vaccination drive begins at SMC Srinagar, Mayor takes first jab

Srinagar: Covid vaccination drive was started in Srinagar Municipal Corporation on Monday where Mayor of the Corporation Junaid Matoo took the first jab of Covid-19 vaccine.

As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Mayor Matoo while talking to reporters after taking the first shot of Covid-19 said there are around 4500 employees in SMC who are being vaccinated in coming days.

“I took first jab myself so that others will follow and come forward in taking vaccination without any complaints,” he said

He said that everyone must be thankful to “our scientists and doctors who manufactured this vaccine in India even before developed countries and vaccine is given free to its citizen.”

“We must avail and shouldn’t pay any heed towards misinformations and misconceptions,” he said, adding that as the Mayor of the SMC “I took the first jab and I am completely fine and have no complaints.”

It is a moment of pride for us that vaccines have been manufacturered in India and we can close this chapter of Covid-19 only because of vaccines, he said.

“We must take precautions and follow guidelines in letter and spirit so that this virus won’t re-emerge here,” he said.

He said that now schools and colleges are being opened across Kashmir and heads of schools must ensure that no student or staff member is being allowed to enter school premises without a mask.

He said that action will be taken against the head of Institution within the limits of SMC who will allow students or staff without masks.
