Ganderbal, Dec 5: A year on, the ultrasonography machines are lying defunct at two vital Primary Health centres of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, due to which the poor patients are suffering a lot.
Sources in the health department said the USG machines at PHC Manigam and PHC Wussan are lying defunct due to which poor patients are forced to go to private clinics or district hospital Ganderbal.
The aggrieved patients said the lone USG machines at these PHCs are lying dysfunctional for the last more than a year raising many questions on the overall medical-care facilities in the district.
With no other facility available, patients, especially pregnant women are facing a lot of hardships, due to which they are forced to go to Ganderbal and Srinagar.
The patients said that a majority of the patients visiting the hospital for treatment come from poor financial backgrounds who cannot afford to pay hefty charges to private laboratories.
“As the USG machine has been lying defunct, they have been running from pillar to post to get their tests done,” Suriya, a local resident, told KNO.
The locals appealed concerned authorities and Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal to look into the matter so that people can heave a sigh of relief.
Chief Medical Officer, Ganderbal Mehraj-ud-Din sad there is no defect in USG machine and if any patient faces such problem they must contact the authorities. “The fact is that we don’t have extra ultrasound machine in Kangan which is the main reason due to which people face problems,” he added.
