Srinagar, Apr 16: Reiterating his appeal asking people to stay at home to combat spread of Coronavirus, Deputy Commissioner (DC), Srinagar, Shahid Iqbal Choudhary said a fleet of cargo autos is ready to deliver vegetables and essentials across Srinagar.
He said priority would be given to ‘Red Zone areas’.
“Please continue staying indoors, essentials being made available at home. A fleet of cargo autos is ready to deliver vegetables/essentials across #Srinagar. Priority red zone areas,” Dr Choudhary wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.
Srinagar is among 16 districts in country to share best practices in Covid-19 combat. “Hard work of hundreds of colleagues from all departments, cooperation of residents will surely get us better results. No lowering of guard at any time,” he wrote.
The Srinagar DC said, ‘it surely puts us on winning side, when community and government work together in crises’. “We’ve arranged sewing machines for 200 women volunteers to create masks. Being made available for public use soon,” he added.
Srinagar is the worst affected district in the Union Territory of J&K as it has recorded about 27 per cent of the total active positive cases, besides one death so far. Following the surge in the COVID-19 cases, all roads leading to 14 areas, which were declared as ‘Red Zones’ after several COVID-19 positive cases surfaced from there, were sealed with iron rods.
