New Delhi, Apr 2: With more than 384 new active Novel Coronavirus positive cases in the past one day, total COVID-19 confirmed cases crossed the 2000 mark in the country on Thursday evening, with the number now at 2069, the Health Ministry said.
As per the available date from the Health Ministry, the death toll has gone up to 53 so far and the active cases in the country stand at 1860.
Till this morning, the active COVID-19 cases were 1764.
Meanwhile, the number of cured cases so far are 155, while one person has migrated, said the government.
The government on Thursday evening said a total of 9,000 associated with Tablighi Jamaat and their contacts have been identified and sent to quarantined facilities so far.
A Home Ministry official said the efforts have been put in to search their contacts, as the group has emerged as a major source of COVID-19 infection across the country.
“Total 9,000 Tablighi Jamaat workers and their contacts have been identified across the nation and sent to quarantine. Among them, 1,306 are foreign nationals,” said MHA Joint Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava.
These people had attended a religious congregation, organised by the Tablighi Jamaat at the Nizamuddin Markaz last month, which led to a sudden spike in Coronavirus cases across the country.
Markaz Nizamuddin in the National Capital has become a hot spot of COVID-19 cases, the Ministry had said.
Scores of people, who attended a religious gathering here last month, have found to be infected with the deadly virus.
Statewise, Maharashtra remains the worst-affected with 335 positive cases and 13 deaths, followed by Kerala with 265 positive cases and two casualties.
With a spike of more than 60 cases since morning, Delhi now houses 219 COVID-19 patients, with four deaths.
Tamil Nadu has 234 positive cases with one casualty, while Karnataka has 110 COVID-19 patients with three deaths, Uttar Pradesh has 113 with two casualties and Rajasthan has 108 positive patients.
