Srinagar, Apr 1: The inhabitants of several areas of Nowgam, are up  in arms against the Power Development Department (PDD) for its alleged failure to provide them with electricity.

Residents said that for the past one month they are suffering badly due to irregular and unscheduled power cuts.

They said in Nowgam, Bunpora and Hajam Mohalla, areas have reeling under darkness from the past few days while PDD has been making no efforts to restore the electricity in the area.

Ishtiyaq Ahmad Sheikh a local told JKNS that, PDD is not following any curtailment schedule in the area. We hardly get electricity for few hours in a whole day, he said.

He said for past one month, we are suffering badly, adding that there PDD employees have neglected the area.

Another group of people from Hajam Mohalla Nowgam said they are facing acute problems from several weeks.

They said they approached many officials at the Tehsil headquarters but things have remained unchanged on the ground.

“Despite paying bills on time, we are forced to spend evenings and nights in darkness,” said Danish Rasool, a local.

A senior official at PDD said that issue would be resolved and stated that the transformer of the area had developed a technical snag. “The transformer would take 1 to 2 days more to get repaired. The repair has been delayed due to current lockdown,” he said. (JKNS)
