Teacher dies of heart attack in Kupwara

Srinagar: A young government school teacher died due to heart attack in north Kashmir district of Kupwara, official sources said.

They said Zahoor Ahmad Dar, resident of Trehgam, Kupwara suffered a massive heart attack at his home Tuesday night. Zahoor, a government school teacher was immediately rushed to hospital where he was declared brought dead.

He is survived by his mother, wife and two children.

Only yesterday a young mason died due to heart attack in Bandipora.

Over 50 persons, mostly youths, including security force personnel, have died due to heart attack in winter this year. The expert have failed to ascertain the cause of increase in heart attacks in the valley.

However, Doctor Association Kashmir (DAK) president Dr Nissar ul Hassan has warned that due to severe cold conditions in winter people having heart ailment have to take extra precautions. He has said heart attacks could increase due to below freezing temperature.

 

12th class result on March 8

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (BOSE) on Wednesday said that it will declare the 12th class results on March-08.

BOSE officials said the results would be declared on March-08 at 5 Pm.

Earlier, the term end examinations of 10th and 12th standard of Kashmir division and winter zones of Jammu division commenced from 9th and 10th November respectively.

In a backdrop of COVID-19, BOSE had decided to give 10th and 12th standard students syllabi relaxation 40 percent. (KNO)

Labourer killed, another critical in Bijbehara slab collapse

Bijbehara: In a tragic incident, a labourer was killed while another was critically injured after a concrete slab of a house collapsed on them in Sambad Nowshera village of Bijbehara in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday afternoon.

An official said the duo came under the concrete slab after it collapsed at around 03:00 pm today.

He said that one house owner namely Mohammad Aslam Bajad son of Mukhan Bajad, a resident of Sambad Nowshera was opening the shuttering of his newly constructed house.

“After opening the shuttering, the slab of the house suddenly collapsed on two labourers,” he said.

The official said the duo was rushed to a nearby hospital, where one of them was declared brought dead and other one is being treated at district hospital Anantnag.

He identified the deceased as Junaid Mandad son of Ghulam Hassan from Sambad Nowshara and injured as Shabir Ahmad Nengroo son of Ghulam Mohammad of Nowshera Khiram.

LG delivers valedictory address at 8th Indian Social Work Congress at Visva-Bharati University

Jammu: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha delivered his valedictory address through a Video message at 8th Indian Social Work Congress jointly organized by National Association of Professional Social Workers in India (NAPSWI), International Consortium for Social Development-AsiaPacific (ICSDAP) & Department of Social Work, Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan.

Speaking on the occasion, the Lt Governor observed that deliberations held during 8th India Social Work Congress on the theme “Social Cohesion, Collective Responsibility and Social Work Profession” will prove to be important for society and administration.

The global health crisis that we are going through today has brought families, people, groups and countries together to fight this pandemic and created a new chapter of social cohesion and collective responsibility, he added.

The concept of social cohesion and collective responsibility is the soul of our country; it is this creative movement that sowed the seeds of reformism in our country. Social work and the spirit of selfless service have been in our traditions and culture since ancient times, the Lt Governor maintained.

Terming social service as a part of life, the Lt Governor observed that through service to others, we can transform the life and society around us. Be it cleaning in Swatch Bharat Abhiyaan, becoming voice of the weak, caring for patients or supporting the marginalized groups, it all happens with the sense of service and social responsibility towards others”, the Lt Governor maintained.

Congratulating the Vice Chancellor of Visva Bharati University, and President NAPSWI, for organizing the three day-long event, the Lt Governor said that Vishwa Bharati’s motto, ‘The whole world is a house’, inspires us to understand and live the philosophy of life expounded by venerable Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore for which he performed rigorous penance and hardwork throughout his life. The tapobhoomi on which this program is being held is known for the works done for Village improvement, rural development, and the rise of our villages.

The Lt Governor called upon the professionals of all social works, to work together on literacy, health, sanitation, poverty, malnutrition, population, child labour, t women empowerment, corruption, and drug abuse and wherever policy intervention is needed.

Social service is the real prayer and worship. The more you get absorbed in serving others, the closer you come to yourself. Strive with a goal-oriented approach for balanced, inclusive and sustainable development in every corner of the country along with socio-economic progress of all individuals, said the Lt Governor while addressing the young students.

Speaking on the contribution of great social reformers, Sinha said there have been many great social reformers in our country who influenced the philosophy of welfare and development in this country. Who can forget Raja Ram Mohan Roy’s reforms, including women’s education and widow marriage. Even today, there are problems in our society, which can be faced with social cohesion and collective responsibility, added the Lt Governor.

Throwing light on the great works of Rabindranath Tagore, Lt Governor said that the way Gurudev has taught for consciousness of the new generation and their deeds. “Gurudev had shown the way for moral and spiritual philosophy, social problems, and necessary reforms in the society. His contribution to the rich cultural wealth of the country and with it enlightened consciousness and community development work can never be forgotten. He also did unprecedented work to solve the problems of farmers”.

 

Efforts on to restore traffic to Machil, adjoining villages

 Srinagar: Snow clearance operation was going on war-footing to restore traffic to the border town of Machil and adjoining villages, which remained cutoff for the fifth successive day due to accumulation of snow, in north Kashmir district of Kupwara.

Bandipora-Gurez road also remained closed due to accumulation of several feet of snow, following which dozens of remote villages and far flung areas remained cut off from tehsil and district headquarter in Bandipora since January 1.

However, traffic was plying normally on two main roads — Kupwara-Keran and Kupwara-Karnah – following clearance of snow earlier this week.

“Traffic remained suspended to several far-flung and remote villages, including Machil, due to accumulation of several feet of snow,” an official of Police Control Room (PCR), Kupwara, told UNI. 

He said snow clearance operation was going on war footing to restores traffic to these areas. “Vehicular traffic will be allowed only after clearance of the road and getting a green signal from officials deployed on the ground,” he said.

He said one-way traffic was plying on Kupwara-Keran road though the vehicles are currently plying only till Munden, which is few kms from the main town. “The snow clearance operation to restore traffic till Keran town was also going on war footing,” he added.

People in Gurez continued to suffer as the border town remained cutoff from rest of Kashmir valley since January 1. “Razdan pass, connecting Gurez, Neeru and dozens of other areas near LoC with district headquarters Bandipora, which is already covered over several feet of snow, received fresh snowfall last week,” an official of Police Control Room (PCR), Bandipora, told UNI.

He said the road is expected to reopen in April as Radzan pass is under several feet of snow and the area is avalanche prone.

 

  Bird Flu: DC reviews bio-security measures

Srinagar: Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Shahid Iqbal Choudhary reviewed the measures in place for detecting cases and prevention of Avian Influenza / Bird Flu, in a meeting of departments convened to further strengthen the response mechanism.

A detailed presentation was made by Dr Salim Khan, Head, Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Government Medical College, Srinagar about the prevalence, signs and symptoms , risk factors, reporting mechanism, control and containment among other measures.

Dr Rabanie Tariq of SPM department presented on public awareness campaign and Information Education Communication for public outreach.

Dr Mohammad Ashraf, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer briefed the meeting about daily surveillance and monitoring efforts, containment measures and sampling of suspect cases as well as special measures in migratory bird habitat areas undertaken in coordination with wildlife department.

District Disaster Management Officer Ishfaq Khan briefed that an amount of Rs 10 Lakh has been approved to augment the efforts of departments for containment, surveillance and prevention measures as well as awareness.

Municipal Veterinary Health Officer Dr Javed shred about sanitisation efforts and preparedness.

The meeting discussed about emergency response mechanism in case of detection of cases or outbreak , robust preventive mechanism, public awareness, compensation mechanism and capacity building of poultry farmers. It was decided that a workshop of poultry farmers will be organised to spread awareness about preventive measures and bio security measures both on-farm and processing.

Presently departmental teams are conducting surveillance and daily reports including tests conducted are shared with District Disaster Management Authority. Meanwhile Institute of Animal Health and Biological Products, Zakura is conducting thorough testing and screening. Till date no case of bird flu has been detected in domestic poultry however few cases were reported in wild / migratory birds in the district. (GNS)

IGP interacts with probationary IPS officers

Srinagar: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Vijay Kumar Wednesday interacted with a group of 33 IPS probationary officers of 2018 batch in the conference hall of Police Control Room Kashmir.

On the occasion, IGP Kashmir and DIG CKR Srinagar briefed the probationary officers about the recent challenges being faced by Police in view of militancy, fresh recruitment of youths into militant ranks, new burial management, law & order issues and other security issues in Kashmir valley. Besides, roles of CAPFs were also highlighted in detail like performing L&O, ROP duties, VIP security, election duties, Amarnath Yatra duties and guarding vital installations.

IGP briefed them about modes of intelligence collections like Humint, Techint and intelligence gathered during investigation of militant related cases and timely launching anti-militancy operations with other security forces to achieve the desired result.

On border management, he also appraised them about issues emerging due to ceasefire violation on the Line of Control (LoC) and the problems faced by police and civil administration in dealing with the situation.

The probationary IPS officers were also apprised about the measures being taken to strengthen the anti-infiltration grid on LoC by the Army.

DIG CKR Srinagar Amit Kumar shared his experiences while leading anti-militancy operations from the front.

SSP Srinagar also presented a detailed presentation about the role of J&K Police in maintenance of law & order and fight against militancy.

SP Operation Srinagar also gave a detailed presentation on technical surveillance, cyber crimes and other challenges faced by Police at the ground level.

Later on, IGP Kashmir also replied to the several questions of probationary IPS officers.

 

 

 Massive rescue operation continues to trace girl drowned in Kupwara

Srinagar: A massive rescue operation continued on Wednesday to trace a seven-year-old girl who drowned in a water body in the frontier district of Kupwara on Tuesday, official sources said.

They said a minor girl identified as Humeera daughter of Mohammad Sabir, a resident of Bijnoor Uttar Pradesh (UP) was drowned in Pehroo Nallah at Maidan Chogal in Handwara in Kupwara when she was playing on the bank alongwith other children.

However, elders present in the area also jumped into the nallah but could not save her. Sabir is running a barbar shop in the area for the past eight years.

Later, a massive rescue operation was launched but she could not be recovered due to fast flow of water in the nallah. However, last night the operation was suspended only to be resumed this morning.

Army, SDRF, police and locals have joined the rescue operation, the said.

 

Police seek help to trace a missing youth in Sopore

Baramulla: Jammu and Kashmir police has sought help to trace a youth who is missing in apple township of Sopore in north this Kashmir district, a police spokesman said.

He said a report was lodged in a police station in Sopore that a youth identified as Firdous Ahmad Dar, resident of Dogelteng MET road has gone missing.

However, despite massive searches the missing youth could not be traced, he said adding now help has been sought from general public to trace him.

He said people having any information about the youth should inform nearest police station or Police Control Room (PCR).

 

 

Registration Deptt increases working days, slots to shorten waiting period for public

Jammu:  Considering the inconvenience caused to the citizens who had to wait for long periods for scheduling an appointment slot for Registration of their documents in their jurisdictional Sub Registrar Offices (SROs), the Revenue Department and IGR, in consultation with NGDRS, Government of India took on board the Software Development Unit (SDU) Pune and initiated & got completed shifting of appointments from Old SROs to the newly formed SROs, added additional 05 more slots per day in each of the heavy load SROs and also notified Saturdays as working days vide Circular No. 01-(Rev) of 2021 dated 22.02.2021 for the purpose of Registration. Directions were issued to the Deputy Commissioners to personally monitor the progress and functioning of SROs.

Crucially, provision for re-scheduling of appointment slots was enabled at the level of the jurisdictional SROs to ensure that the additional slots are made available to those who had already scheduled their appointments but were in the queue with long waiting period ranging from 30-90 days. A public notice was issued to this effect on 26/02/2021. The consequent rescheduling has facilitated the citizens to prepone their Registration slot, sometimes by even 40-60 days, as per the date convenient to them.

These measures have ensured that at present the citizens can schedule slots to their convenience with no waiting period in most of the SROs and even in heavy load SROs, the waiting period has been brought down to 04-09 days only.

The citizens can avail the online facility of availability of additional slots and Saturdays as additional days to schedule their appointments for Registrations. The slots can be booked on https://ngdrs.jk.gov.in.
