New Delhi: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said the cases of black fungus disease in the national capital are around 500.
There is an extreme shortage of medicine for black fungus in the city, the production of the medicine has to be increased, Mr Kejriwal told reporters here.
He said the Delhi government has set up dedicated centres for the treatment of black fungus disease
in LNJP Hospital, GTB Hospital and Rajiv Gandhi Hospital but there is no medicine.
”We did not receive the medicine yesterday, so how can we treat the patients without the
medicine? The injection is administered 4 to 5 times a day, if we are not given the injection
then how can we treat the patient?
Suddenly this illness has emerged and there is a shortage of its medicine in the market, so the Central Government is distributing all the medicines it has in all the states.
There is an extreme shortage of medicine, its production also has to be increased. Since 4-5 injections need to be administered daily and there are around 500 patients so we need 2000 injections daily but we are receiving only 400-500 injections,” he said.

KU organises one-day special Covid-19 vaccination drive
Srinagar: The University of Kashmir on Monday organised another special Covid-19 vaccination drive for its employees.
According to a statement at least 450 doses of Covishield vaccine were administered during the day-long drive, organised by the varsity’s Health Centre in collaboration with the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Government Medical College Srinagar, Block Hazratbal.
In his message, KU Vice-Chancellor Prof Talat Ahmad said organising vaccination drives is important to help contain the spread of Covid19.
“Academic institutions should take a lead in holding such drives to send a message in the society about the importance of Covid vaccination,” he said.
Registrar Dr Nisar Ahmad personally supervised the vaccination drive along with Dr Ashfaq Zarri, In-Charge University Health Centre, to ensure that it’s held in line with the Covid19 SOPs. “This is a second vaccination drive organised for our employees (both teaching and non-teaching) and their immediate family members, aged between 18 to 44 years. There was an overwhelming response to it,” said Dr Zarri.
Dr Nisar and Dr Zarri thanked Director Health Services Kashmir Dr Mushtaq Ahmad, Block Medical Officer Hazratbal Dr Hashmat Sultan for their active support and cooperation for the day-long vaccination programme.
Dr Suraiyah Jan, Nodal Officer for Covid19 management at KU, and Dr Azhar Ahmad Wani from University Health Centre coordinated the drive while Dr Seema Ashraf led it from the office of BMO Hazratbal.
Pertinently, the first two-day vaccination drive, organised by the Health Centre, was held in the KU campus on April 6.

Building turns haven for drug addicts, drunkards, say Teachers, locals

Bijbehara: Nearly three years after the project was completed, the authorities at Higher Secondary School (Boys) Bijbehara have refused to take the possession of auditorium after they found major leakage in the roof of the building.
Notably, in 2005, the government sanctioned the auditorium for Higher Secondary School (Boys) Bijbehara. The educational institution listed as model school.
The construction for the project was allotted to Roads and buildings department. Though the deadline for the completion of project was three years, however the same dragged on for 13 years. After missing many deadlines the executing agency finally completed the project in 2018 and asked the school authorities to take over the auditorium.
On inspection, the HSS authorities found major leakage in the roof of the building and faults in the electric fitting and refused to take its possession.
Principal of the institution asked R&B authorities to complete the building in all respects after only after which they will take over the building. However three years later, the auditorium awaits the minor repairs.
Locals and Staffers of Higher Secondary School told Precious Kashmir that the department after the Principal refused to take over the incomplete building, abandoned the same.
Constructed at the cost of Rs five crore, locals said, the auditorium has become a haven for drug addicts and drunkards, who stay in the building till late nights.
“Due to the failure of R and B authorities to keep watch and ward of the building, the drug addicts have broken and stolen many sanitary items of the building besides damaging its window glasses,” said a Staffer of the school.
A local questioned the wisdom of the R&B officials of abandoning the project on which crores of rupees were spent.
Principal of the institution, Nasreena told Precious Kashmir that she many a time reminded the R and B officials through written letters to carry out the remaining works of the auditorium and handover the building but nothing was done.
An official of R and B wishing anonymity said that they had asked the HSS authorities to take over the building three years back but they refused on the grounds that building had some minor works pending.
“Had they taken possession of the building, we would have carried out all those minor repairs even after their possession. Now, we recently floated tenders for the same but there was no response to the tenders. We will now invite fresh tenders for the same. And once we get response to the tenders repair work on the building will be started without any delay,” R and B official said.

Says case fatality rate lower in UT compared to other States
Srinagar: World Health Organization’s (WHO) Surveillance Medical Officer from Kashmir division on Saturday said that the COVID-19 is under control in Jammu and Kashmir.
Amid surge in Covid positive cases, Dr Ashiq Rashid Mir, Surveillance Medical Officer, World Health Organization, Kashmir Division, expressed optimism over the recovery rate of positive cases along with less case fatality rate in Jammu and Kashmir compared to rest of the states.
“This is the main indicator which shows the disease is under control”, he said and further added that with the determination and cooperation of people, the impact of pandemic could be subdued to a large extent.
He said more than one lakh and thirty thousand patients have recovered in Kashmir and another eighty thousand have recovered in Jammu which according to him is an encouraging sign.
While reiterating on adherence to universal covid protocols everywhere and at all times, he invited the attention of people towards wearing of masks properly and asked them not to touch masks while they are wearing it and further advised to remove mask properly with clean sanitised hands and preferably avoid removing mask with uncovered hands at the time of disposal.
“The exterior side of the masks may contain infection and touching it may pose a threat of infection “, he warned. Dr Ashiq Mir said that people should wash hands with soap for thirty seconds while returning home from work. He called these preventive measures as the first weapon against curtailing the spread of pandemic.
While expressing gratitude to the government, he said the central government made it possible to have vaccines abundantly available and free of cost for the people since the beginning.
He asked people to register for vaccination to get an appointment on a specific date for inoculation and get vaccinated on their turn as it is another effective weapon against the infection.
Govt extends Corona Curfew till May 31
214 arrested, 102 FIRs lodged for norm violation in Kashmir
Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir administration on Saturday extended Corona Curfew across the Union Territory till May 31, 2021.
The Corona Curfew, which was imposed across J&K since April 29 evening, was extended for the fifth time in one month.
In a tweet, Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) announced the extension of Corona Curfew in all 20 districts of J&K till May 31, 2021 morning.
“COVID CONTAINMENT Corona Curfew imposed in all 20 distts of J&K till 7 am on Monday,24/5/21 is extended further till 7 am on Monday,31/5/21. Curfew will be strict except for a few essential services. DCs being given limited flexibility to ensure economic activities do not suffer,” DIPR-J&K tweeted.
Meanwhile, in order to prevent the Coronavirus from spreading, the Corona Curfew imposed by the government continued to remain in place on Saturday across Jammu and Kashmir while police claimed to have arrested 214 persons and also realized fine to the tune of 1,45,360 for norm violation in the Valley.
Eye-witnesses informed that police and paramilitary troops were deployed although in large numbers to enforce the lockdown restrictions. The barricades and concertina wires were erected at many places and bridges to thwart the public movement, they said.
Meanwhile, all the shops and business establishments barring emergency services remained closed throughout the day in Srinagar and other districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Moreover, a police spokesman said that during the last 24 hours, police has arrested 214 persons, lodged 102 FIRs and also realized the fine to the tune of Rs 1,45,360 from 941 people for violating the guidelines and rules throughout Kashmir valley.
“Besides, a vehicle was seized and two shopkeepers were also booked by police in Budgam for violating Covid-19 norms,” police said, adding that the special drive against the violators of Covid-19 guidelines and rules continued throughout all the districts of Kashmir Valley to ensure that people adhere to SOPs and guidelines envisaged by government to curb COVID-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, police urged people to cooperate in containing the spread of Coronavirus by following the SOPs, guidelines and protocols for the safety of the people. “The special drive shall continue throughout the districts of Kashmir Valley to strengthen the safety measures,” he said. (KNO)
48 die as 3,404 test positive in J&K

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir reported 3408 new covid-19 cases while 48 more people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours, officials said on Saturday.
Regarding the fresh deaths, they said, 30 were reported from Jammu Division and 18 from Kashmir Valley, taking the overall fatality count to 3513.
Among the fresh cases, they said, 1251 were confirmed from Jammu Division and 2157 from Kashmir Valley, taking the total tally to 267313.
Providing district wise details, the officials said that Srinagar reported 509 cases, Baramulla 237, Budgam 273, Pulwama 175, Kupwara 202, Anantnag 224, Bandipora 112, Ganderbal 132, Kulgam 241, Shopian 52, Jammu 490, Udhampur 150, Rajouri 119, Doda 43, Kathua 138, Samba 82, Kishtwar 15, Poonch 59, Ramban 128 and Reasi 27.
Moreover, they said, 4117 more COVID-19 patients have recovered—1623 from Jammu Division and 2494 from Kashmir valley. There are 49136 active positive cases in J&K— 20199 in Jammu division and 28937 in the Valley.
A number of these cases were confirmed at diagnostic laboratories of SKIMS Soura, GMC Anantnag and CD hospital here.

India logs 4,194 deaths, 2.57 lakh new cases
New Delhi: India reported 2,57,299 new cases of the Novel Coronavirus in the past 24 hours, taking the infection tally to 2,62,89,290, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Saturday.
Besides, the country also saw 4,194 more fatalities due to the virus, pushing the toll to 2,95,525. On Friday, the country recorded 4,209 deaths.
With 3,57,630 recoveries recorded in the last 24 hours, India’s daily recoveries outnumbered the new Covid cases for the ninth consecutive day. On Friday, India reported 3,57,295 recoveries.
The active caseload in the country is 29,23,400 comprising 11.12 per cent of the total infections while 2,30,70,365 people have recovered from disease so far amounting 87.76 per cent of the recovery rate.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 32,64,84,155 samples have been tested so far for coronavirus, of which 20,66,285 tests were conducted in the past one day, the highest tests done in one day. The previous highest tests in a day were conducted on Friday (20,61,683).
Meanwhile, the case fatality rate stands at 1.12 per cent.
On the vaccination front, total 19,33,72,819 people have been vaccinated across the country till now, of which 14,58,895 doses administered in the past 24 hours.
Maharashtra, which has been the most-affected state in the country, saw highest 1,263 deaths in the past 24 hours, followed by Tamil Nadu (467 ), Karnataka (353), Delhi (252), Punjab (172), UP (172), West Bengal (159), Kerala (142), Rajasthan (129), Uttarakhand (116), Haryana (112), Andhra Pradesh (104) and Chhattisgarh (96).
On Friday, India had registered 2,59,591 new Covid-19 cases and 4,209 deaths. (UNI)

The company has kept a simple procedure for filling of gas as well as cylinders, he says. “One needs to get registered at our control war room and after registration we give them cylinders or fill old cylinders and those who are unable to pay we provide them free cylinders”, Manu Rana said.

Don’t reply to SMS, emails about vaccination: CBK
Srinagar: The Crime Branch (CB), Kashmir, of Jammu and Kashmir police has warned people not to reply to emails and Short Message Service (SMC) talking about coronavirus vaccination.
“Beware, do not click or reply as they are out to steal your information, the CB has warned.
Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter CB, Kashmir said, “ A high number of phishing emails and SMS are being reported that seemingly talk about #coronavirus vaccination. Beware. Don’t click or reply. They are out to steal your information”.
COVID patients prone to BF post recovery: Experts

Srinagar: Health experts on Saturday said that Covid patients can contract black fungus disease two to three weeks after their recovery from the Covid and that such patients should avoid self-medication.
Dr Parmod Kalsotra and Dr Padam Singh, two prominent doctors at Shri Maharja Gulab Singh (SMGS) hospital Jammu, said that on Friday another suspected case of black fungus was admitted at the hospital while one patient has already died of the black fungus.
“Cases of black fungus were reported earlier here as well but such cases were very rare. But cases have increased manifold in India and the whole world,” the doctors said. “The symptoms of mucormycosis depend on where in the body the fungus is growing and patients must contact doctors if they have symptoms related to mucormycosis.”
They said that symptoms of mucormycosis include one-sided facial swelling, headache, nasal or sinus congestion, black lesions on nasal bridge or upper inside of mouth that quickly become more severe, fever, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, gastrointestinal bleeding, cough, chest pain and shortness of breath.
The doctors said that whenever anybody develops any symptoms, they should avoid self-medication as early detection of mucormycosis is a must. “Otherwise its fatal rate is very high. Patients should not waste time in self-medication,” they said.
The patients, who are at high risk are those using steroid drugs for long-term, uncontrolled diabetes, cancer, have gone through transplantation and other immunocompromised patients, the doctors said. “Patients, who are on oxygen must use distilled water in the oxygen pump and change oxygen tubes frequently,” the doctors said.
