Srinagar, Oct 20: The students of Devki Arya Putri Patshala situated at Wazir Bagh area of Srinagar Tuesday held a sit-in protest against the school administration’s decision to close down the institute for the construction of multi-storey shopping mall on school site.
Students along with their parents blocked the main road outside the school at Wazir Bagh and held a sit-in protest against closing down of school for the construction of a shopping complex.
The protesting students shouted slogans against the school administration for allegedly destroying their future.
Students of class 9th and 10th said their future will be ruined in case the shopping complex is constructed on the school site. They alleged that they are being forced to seek admission in other schools as the school administration has also agreed for the construction of a shopping mall.
“It is impossible to take admission in any other school as the class 10th exams are due after a month or two. Secondly, we have to get a migration certificate from BOSE office which is partially functioning since the outbreak of deadly pandemic, we will not allow construction of shopping complex as the same will ruin the future of hundreds of poor students,” students said.
They also said that the government should seriously think over the issue as the same involves the future of hundreds of students studying in Devki Arya Putri Patshala. Students said Principal of the school has also received a letter from district administration asking him to expel students till 31st of this month.
“I recently received a letter from district administration, I have been asked to close the operation till 31st of October. I really don’t know what made the administration close the school. The move would severely impact the future of hundreds of students,” DAPP Principal said.
Parents of the students also blamed school administration for destroying the future of students which they said has also agreed for the construction of a multi storey shopping complex on the school site.
“We belong to poor families; my husband sells used clothes to sustain his family. We are economically downtrodden hence cannot seek admission of our children in other schools. We appeal to the administration to revisit its decision of construction of shopping complex on school site so as to save the future of students from getting ruined,” Fatima, mother a 10th standard student said.
