Kolkata, Aug 13: With sports and games stopped for over five months due to Covid-19, this industry has less to perform.
There is no deadline to Covid-19 and its contradictions nor is there any end to human miseries.
Throwing light on the same, JIS Educational group has come up with an innovative idea for the first time in Eastern India to conduct a three-day long virtual summit from 11 August-13 August across Zoom video conferencing platform.
The topic for the third day was “Sports and Covid-19” which was chaired by eminent Emcee Pranam Roy.
Legendary Hockey player Gurbux Singh, Assistant Coach, ATK Mohun Bagan Sanjoy Sen and Former Indian Cricketer and TV Commentator Deep Dasgupta were present in the panel to discuss about how Covid-19 has affected the Sports sector.
Amidst all negativities, the panelists were very optimistic in the discussion.
“This is a very difficult time for us especially because we lead a disciplined life. But life moves on and we will have to accept and make this our new discipline,” said Gurbux Singh.
Former Cricketer Deep Dasgupta was of the opinion that one should never use the word “Depression” while talking about Covid-19.
“I believe, you never lose a game unless the final whistle is blown. We must use this time to do things for which we usually do not get time. This will help us to remain ahead in the race. I studied about Sports Psychology and learnt Spanish during this period,” added Dasgupta.
Sanjoy Sen, while speaking about his experiences, said, “We have never been in this situation before. Even this webinar is a new experience for me.”
“It is important that we live for today than thinking what will happen after a few months. We must know how to turn every crisis into an opportunity. Keeping the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) same, we must start the game because Covid-19 will continue and we will have to live with it,” said Dasgupta.
While discussing further, Dasgupta felt that hard work is very important to do away with mediocrity in the society. To strive excellence, one must work hard to reach their goals where talent and luck have very less roles to play.
“Superstition in every form is a disease. The more one can do away with the same, the better it helps one to achieve excellence,” added Sanjoy Sen.
Gurbux Singh, however, pointed out an important question, “What would happen if Virat Kohli was born 10 years back? No wonder he is the best we have, but he might not have been what he is, had he born 10 years ago.”
Dasgupta too referred to Kohli while speaking about matches being played at empty stadiums.
“Crowd is an important part of the game as it gives you motivation and Virat exactly knows how to turn the crowd in his favour.”
Talking about salary cuts, the panelists said that since these are trying times and every sector is affected in the long run.
The country’s economy is involved and hence salary cuts will be a part of the same.
The Virtual Summit was inaugurated on Tuesday by Bratya Basu, Minister-in-charge, Department of Science and Technology and Bio-Technology, Government of West Bengal, and Mr Simarpreet Singh, Director, JIS Group on Tuesday.
The three-day long summit focused on various topics considering this pandemic situation which includes session on Education, Cyber security, Sports, Entertainment and Healthcare.
These sessions have been attended by leading industry experts from different spheres.
The final session will bring eminent doctors like Dr Kunal Sarkar, Dr Arindam Biswas and Dr Gautam Mukhopadhyay on board to discuss every aspect of Covid-19 and give us tips on how to live with the virus. The topic for the same will be “Viruses don’t discriminate”.
