7 Drug Peddlers Arrested in Valley

Srinagar: Police on Tuesday arrested a seven drug peddlers and recovered huge quantity of contraband in Kashmir valley.

A police spokesperson said that police in its series of actions against drug dealings in Budgam, Srinagar and Handwara, arrested seven drug peddlers and recovered huge consignment of psychotropic substances from their possession.

He said on a tip off, police arrested two drug peddlers in Mazhama, Magam in Budgam. “The accused were identified as Hilal Ahmad Mir and Arif Mohi,” he said.

He further said that a huge quantity of banned drugs was recovered from their possession, which included a total of 1360 bottles of banned drug codeine phosphate.

In Srinagar, he said on specific input police intercepted four individuals, identified as Aman Alaie, Rouf Nazir Wani, Kaiser Ahmad Ganie, all residents of Nowgam and Faizan Zahoor Sheikh, resident of Mochow Chadoora. “During checking, police recovered 25 grams of Heroin from their possession,” he said, adding the accused have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.

He said police at a checkpoint established at Batagund Crossing in Handwara intercepted an individual identified as Mahnaz Ahmad Ganie resident of Shartgund Payeen. “During checking, poluce recovered 500 grams of Charas from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station Qalamabad where he remains in custody,” the spokesperson said.

He said cases have been registered against the drug peddlers in concerned police stations. “Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law,” he said.

“Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace as reiterated in our community meetings,” he added.
