Jammu and Kashmir are seeing an amazing change in their higher education sector by implementing the Design your degree (DYD) scheme under the NEP 2020.
This is an incredible achievement. The Universities have been leading the way implementing the scheme since 2023 and have recently taken their fourth batch.
They have also just built an Academic Block specifically for the DYD students showing their commitment to ensuring that students have the infrastructure needed for a project based and flexible learning approach.
The initiative that has also been asked to roll out across the universities within six means more students can benefit from this autonomous learning.
The students from Universities have been showing some amazing innovation by presenting their projects at national conferences.
Some universities have also reported that the students have a high level of confidence and have had some great final projects including agricultural technology and cultural preservation.
The scheme has been reviewed by high level members of the administration and Higher Education Council setting strict deadlines for full implementation. This shows a huge level of commitment and political will.
Despite any issues with implementation the scheme is going well in J&K.
By focusing on training the staff and partnering with other institutions in the country, the area are creating a sustainable system.
Students are being given the opportunity to learn practically and with an interdisciplinary approach. They are presenting their innovations at national conferences.
Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education Council are taking a proactive approach setting strict deadlines for the Universities to fully implement the scheme.
By giving students the power to design their own path of study by combining their major/minor and skills courses, Jammu and Kashmir are creating an adaptable generation of future professionals. This scheme is a shining example of collaboration.
This initiative is aimed at creating critical thinkers and innovators. The work being done in Jammu and Kashmir is an inspiring example of how effective the NEP 2020 can be implemented.
